Bencic Outlasts Young Sensation Andreeva in Wimbledon Thriller

Bencic won a high-stakes duel against the young tennis prodigy Andreeva, securing a 7-6, 7-6 victory in the Wimbledon quarterfinals. Though the Russian was the favorite on paper (ranked 7th in the world), she couldn’t find solutions against the vastly experienced Swiss player.
The two players were neck-and-neck throughout the match. With very few break opportunities for either, the encounter came down to two tiebreaks, both expertly handled by the world No. 20.
Now a mother in 2024, the 28-year-old has fought hard to return to the pinnacle of women’s tennis (ranked 20th). A former world No. 4 and Olympic medalist in Tokyo, Bencic once again displayed remarkable mental resilience.
She will next face four-time Grand Slam champion—yet a novice at this stage of the competition—Swiatek, who is also set to play her first semifinal in the legendary Wimbledon tournament.
