Swiatek after her match against Bencic: "We had to make courageous decisions"
After a battle of over two hours against Belinda Bencic, Iga Swiatek reaches the quarterfinals in Wuhan. A victory snatched through mental strength and boldness.
Iga Swiatek is no stranger to challenges, and in Wuhan, the world number 2 had to draw from her deepest resources to overcome Belinda Bencic, 6-4, 7-6, after more than two hours of intense combat. When asked after the match, she stated:
"I wanted to play with confidence and make courageous decisions. I really tried to do that. It was super tough. Every match was difficult. That's why it lasted over two hours for just two sets."
Next up is Jasmine Paolini, a matchup that promises to be difficult and already has a precedent: the Cincinnati final last August, won by Swiatek, not without difficulty (7-5, 6-4).
"She's a really tough opponent. She's a fighter. She never gives up. She's played some tough matches. You always have to be ready for every ball that comes back. I'll just prepare... and I'll be ready."
