At almost 31 years old, Alexandrova becomes the third oldest player to enter the WTA top 10
Approaching her 31st birthday, Alexandrova proves that patience and consistency can lead to the top, climbing step by step up the WTA rankings until reaching the top 10.
Consistency pays off for Ekaterina Alexandrova. Despite her elimination in the third round at Wuhan, the Russian player will officially enter the top 10 on Monday, benefiting notably from the withdrawal of last year's finalist Qinwen Zheng.
As she turns 31 on November 15th, Alexandrova will become the third oldest player to make her debut among the world's top ten players. Roberta Vinci (33 years old in 2016) and Betty Stove (31 years old in 1976) precede her in this statistic.
She is also the fifth player in the 21st century to enter the top 10 before reaching a Grand Slam quarterfinal. This year, she was stopped in the round of 16 at Roland-Garros, Wimbledon, and the US Open, achieving her best career results in tournaments of this category.
