Sabalenka gets past Rybakina and advances to the Wuhan semifinals
Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina faced off for a spot in the semifinals of the WTA 1000 in Wuhan. The first set between the two players was tight until the Belarusian broke serve in the 8th game on her second break point.
Trailing by a double break in the second set, Rybakina managed to break back once before earning another break opportunity that she failed to convert.
Sabalenka ultimately won 6-3, 6-3 and will face Jessica Pegula for a place in the final.
Interviewed on court after her victory, Sabalenka said: "It's always tough to play against Rybakina, she's a player who gives me trouble. I'm happy to have won knowing that she beat me in Cincinnati.
I love this tournament, I feel at home when I step onto this court. Pegula is a player who pushes me to my limits, it won't be easy."
