Berrettini defends Sinner over his Davis Cup absence: Everyone has their own world and their own goals

Bologna will host the Davis Cup finals next week. However, the two-time defending champion Italy will be without its two best players, Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti, who have both prioritized rest ahead of the next season. This is no cause for concern for Matteo Berrettini, however.

Italy will attempt to win a third Davis Cup next week. This time, however, the Squadra Azzurra will have to do without the services of Sinner and Musetti, both ranked in the ATP top 10.

Selected by his captain Filippo Volandri, Berrettini is not worried about the absence of Italy's two main assets and is counting on the unity of his group to go and secure another title in this team competition.

"The Davis Cup has always suited me well, and I think I can bring the right determination to the group. Jannik (Sinner) and Lorenzo (Musetti) are not here, but the positive thing is that, even without our two best players, there is no panic or stress.

We are all aware that we can do it. We have the hunger and we know we are in a good dynamic. Flavio (Cobolli) has had the best season of his career and Lorenzo (Sonego) has already shown he can perform well when representing his country. Bolelli and Vavassori play very well in doubles.

We are a group, we are friends, everything will be fine. When I think about everything Jannik has done in the last two years, it's impressive. Everyone has their own world and their own goals.

I think I always have something to give to this sport. There are still things I want to accomplish, but all without putting my body and my mind at risk, because that's what unfortunately happened in recent years," Berrettini assured to La Gazzetta Dello Sport in recent hours.
