Berrettini: "Mamma mia, I represent Italy!"
Injured last year, Matteo Berrettini was unable to play in Italy's Davis Cup triumph. The Italian colossus, who has had a tricky but promising season, will be on hand this Sunday to take on the Netherlands in the Davis Cup final.
Having already won the decisive doubles alongside Jannik Sinner in the quarter-finals, Berrettini went one better on Saturday, defeating Thanasi Kokkinakis in the first singles of the semi-final against Australia (6-7, 6-3, 7-5).
Interviewed in the press conference, the current world No. 35 made no secret of his enthusiasm and his special emotional bond with the World Cup of tennis: "When I play Davis Cup, there's always a moment during the match, or maybe even during the warm-up, when I think back to when I was a kid and used to watch the tournament for hours and hours. Every now and then, I have to pinch myself awake and say to myself: 'Mamma mia, I'm in Davis Cup and I'm representing Italy!"
