Berrettini on Sinner: "His ability to always want to improve".
Considering the circumstances, Matteo Berrettini is having a very satisfying 2024 season.
Hampered by numerous physical problems, the Transalpine never gave up.
A hard worker, he managed to come back every time, even winning three ATP tournaments this season, all on clay (Marrakech, Gstaad, Kitzbuhel).
Berrettini is a member of the Italian Davis Cup team, and showed his team-mates the way in their first match against Brazil.
Authoritatively overpowering Joao Fonseca (7-6, 6-1), he took Italy halfway.
Questioned at the press conference, the Italian giant was also asked about the level of play of world number 1 Jannik Sinner.
Very complimentary, he explained: "There are a lot of things I'd like to steal from Jannik's game.
One of them, above all, is dedication to work, more specifically his ability to always want to improve.
He reached the tennis elite at a very young age and never wanted to stop, and if you hear him talk, he's always looking to the future, which is a quality the greats have.
That focus is kind of innate and you work on it a bit, so I try to do the same thing, keep pushing myself, keep looking for goals, keep feeling the important stimuli.
We're not just talking about rankings or tournaments, but the joy of improving."
