Berrettini on Sinner: "That's what makes him special".
Unsurprisingly, Italy are once again world tennis champions. Already crowned last year, the Italians retained their trophy with great mastery and thus achieve a historic double for the country, especially if we add the women's team's Billie Jean King Cup crown this year too.
Aided by Jannik Sinner's untouchable world No.1 ranking, the Transalps were also able to rely on an overjoyed Matteo Berrettini, back at a very high level of play.
The obviously happy Italian colossus spoke at the press conference about his triumph, and in particular about his relationship with his compatriot and friend, Jannik Sinner.
Very complimentary, he declared: "It didn't seem real to us to see someone hit so hard, so flat, so precise, that all the balls were inside him. He only lost six matches (in 2024), proving that he's the best in the world.
But he came here with great humility, as if he hadn't won anything, as if he hadn't just won the ATP Finals.
Before we took to the court together in doubles (the decisive doubles match in the quarter-finals against Argentina), he went up to everyone to ask if everything was alright.
I think that if he's incredible on the court, the way he manages relationships with everyone is even more fantastic. That's what makes him special, that's why we have two Davis Cups at home."
