Bertolucci on the Alcaraz-Sinner Final: "It Was Violent"
At home, Jannik Sinner dominated Carlos Alcaraz in a final described as "violent and ferocious" by Paolo Bertolucci.
In Turin, Sinner won one of the chapters of a rivalry that has become essential for modern tennis, dominating an Alcaraz who is nonetheless the world number 1 and was particularly aggressive. The Italian, already the winner last year, achieved a historic back-to-back victory at the ATP Finals, at just 24 years old.
In his column relayed by Tennis World Italia, Paolo Bertolucci first praises the Italian champion's technical and tactical evolution.
"Sinner's work to improve his serve, which began after the US Open, worked perfectly. During the week in Turin, his percentages were crazy, but if they dropped, Jannik compensated with everything else, showing that he is a truly complete player.
The two champions know each other perfectly and have faced each other too many times to be surprised, even though they always try to find different tactics. For example, on Sunday, Alcaraz was more aggressive than usual. But he gained little from this, because Sinner's shots were unstoppable.
It was a violent final, ferocious for long periods, and it was important for Jannik to maintain control of the game, to make Carlos understand that he was always there and that he would never give up, that he fought for every ball until the end.
The mental strength is that of a player who, after saving a set point, finds himself at the start of the second set down a break, and despite all that, does not lose concentration and calmly fights back."
