BJK Cup 2025: Two Match Points Saved, Navarro Brings the United States Closer to the Semifinals
As the Billie Jean King Cup 2025 is in full swing, the clash between Kazakhstan and the United States highlighted the resilience of Emma Navarro, who managed to overcome the pressure to offer a crucial point to her team against Kazakhstan.
Following the qualifications of Italy and Ukraine for the semifinals, it's time for the third quarter-final of the Billie Jean King Cup 2025 between Kazakhstan and the United States. The first two players on the court were Yulia Putintseva and Emma Navarro.
Ranked 18th in the world, the latter was the favorite but needed to be wary of the Kazakh player, who is capable of achieving positive results very regularly against the best players in the world. While several matches have been closely contested since the beginning of the week in Shenzhen, the level of suspense rose a notch between Navarro and Putintseva.
The two women were separated in the tie-break of the third set. The 61st in the WTA rankings thus obtained two match points at 6-4 in the decisive game. It was the moment chosen by Navarro to raise her level and score the last four points, bringing the first point to her team (7-5, 2-6, 7-6 in 2h28).
Frustrated by the outcome of this match, Putintseva could not hide her frustration after missing a final forehand that meant defeat for her team. The USA is now just one victory away from qualifying for the semifinals. The day's second match will pit Elena Rybakina against Jessica Pegula.
