Bob Bryan on his decision to change the American doubles: "I decided that within 15 minutes of the singles."
The USA were eliminated by Australia in their Davis Cup quarter-final this afternoon. Beyond the result, it was the last-minute change to the doubles team that surprised everyone.
After their defeat, the American team quickly appeared at the press conference.
Captain Bob Bryan explained his decision to field two singles players (Paul and Shelton) when he had called up two doubles specialists (Krajicek and Ram): "We had a very good doubles option, but I decided to play to the strength of two singles players to surprise our opponents.
I decided this within 15 minutes of the second singles. The idea was to surprise them. I don't regret that decision.
A choice that didn't pay off against the Australians, who had staked their chances on two experienced players for this doubles (Thompson and Ebden).
