Boisson Pulls Off Stunning Upset Against Pegula and Advances to Roland-Garros Quarterfinals
Boisson faced Pegula on Court Philippe-Chatrier in the Roland-Garros round of 16.
After defeating 23rd seed Mertens in the first round, the Frenchwoman delivered a top-tier performance by overcoming the 2024 US Open finalist and world No. 3 Pegula in the Roland-Garros round of 16. After a courageous but ultimately lost first set (3-6), the French player brilliantly leveled the match in the following set with a break sealed by a stunning backhand winner, followed by a flawless hold.
After securing an early break in the third and final set, won by the Frenchwoman, the two players went toe-to-toe until 4-4, culminating in a grueling 10-minute game. Taking the initiative, Boisson created multiple break points, initially saved by the American, before clinching the decisive game of the match. After saving a 13th break point with a magnificent lob and a spectacular finish, she secured her place in the quarterfinals in her first-ever Roland-Garros appearance (3-6, 6-4, 6-4). Boisson had never defeated a top-20 player in her career before this milestone victory against the world No. 3 and 2024 US Open finalist.
She will now face the young Russian prodigy and world No. 6, Mirra Andreeva, in the quarterfinals—the same player who reached the semifinals at Porte d’Auteuil at just 17 years old.
