Bopanna reflects on his career: "It's a journey that far exceeds anything I had imagined"
Winner of 26 doubles titles (including the 2024 Australian Open with Matthew Ebden), Rohan Bopanna has had a fulfilling career. The former world number one in the discipline announced in early November that he was retiring at the age of 45. A few weeks later, the Indian player gave an interview to the official ATP website in which he reflects on his journey.
"My next mission is to help Indian tennis"
"I think my career is a story of patience, discipline, and self-confidence. You need to have a strong mindset. That's what made all the difference, what allowed me to go from almost quitting tennis to becoming world number one.
Sania Mirza is also someone I've been around on the tour, and we've shared many great memories. Even though I've met amazing people from all over the world, the simple fact of sharing this adventure with someone from your own country helps, I think, to better shape your journey.
Coming from a small town like Coorg, traveling around the world, becoming world number one... it's a journey that far exceeds anything I had imagined. I am grateful for every partner, every match, every city. My next real mission is to help Indian tennis. I would really like to share my experience with young players," Bopanna thus assured for the ATP.
