Altercation between Shelton and Vavassori during a doubles match: "This isn't baseball"
For the Monte-Carlo tournament, Ben Shelton played doubles, paired with Rohan Bopanna. They faced the experienced duo of Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori.
Vavassori frequently complained during the match about shots aimed at his body by Shelton. During the handshake, the Italian made sure to point it out to him.
The American responded: "This is tennis, it's doubles, not baseball."
Coincidence or not, Vavassori withdrew shortly after from the Barcelona tournament, which was scheduled for the following week, due to a "rib injury sustained early in the previous day's match in Monte-Carlo."
