Career end for Albert Ramos-Vinolas: another Spanish clay-court specialist bids farewell to tennis
After 18 seasons on the tour, Albert Ramos-Vinolas played his final match in Valencia. The Spaniard, a craftsman of clay-court tennis, leaves behind a career as discreet as it was exemplary, marked by four titles on the main tour.
Final curtain for Albert Ramos-Vinolas after 18 years spent competing in tournaments worldwide.
The Spaniard was participating this week in the Valencia Challenger, organized by another former Spanish player, Pablo Andujar.
Approaching 38 years old, he had managed to postpone his retirement twice by defeating Pedro Martinez (6-4, 6-2) and then Zdenek Kolar (1-6, 6-3, 6-4). He fell this Thursday against Jan Choinski (6-4, 7-5), drawing a line under a career highlighted by four ATP 250 titles, all won on clay (Bastad 2016, Gstaad 2019, Estoril 2021 and Cordoba 2022).
World No. 17 at his peak, Ramos-Vinolas had also reached the quarterfinals at Roland-Garros in 2016 and the final of the Monte-Carlo Masters 1000 in 2017. During that memorable Monegasque week, he had successively defeated Andy Murray, Marin Cilic and Lucas Pouille.
