Roland-Garros 2025: Ruud dismisses Ramos-Viñolas and smoothly advances to the second round

Winner of his first Masters 1000 in Madrid in recent weeks, Casper Ruud stands as a credible underdog in this Roland-Garros 2025. A two-time finalist of the event in 2022 (against Nadal) and in 2023 (against Djokovic), the Norwegian has gained full confidence before starting the Parisian Grand Slam.
Back in the top 10 as he approaches the fortnight at Porte d’Auteuil, Ruud faced Albert Ramos-Viñolas, who came through the qualifiers for his last Roland-Garros. Calm and collected, Ruud was ultimately not troubled in this match and won in straight sets (6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in 2h06) to reach the second round.
Producing 34 winners (compared to 21 by the Spaniard), Ruud converted 5 break points out of the 11 he had. The seventh seed of this tournament will face Nuno Borges for a place in the third round.
As for Ramos-Viñolas, he played the last match of his career at Roland-Garros. At 37, the world No. 251 had confirmed in recent months that he would retire at the end of the 2025 season. He had reached the quarter-finals in Paris in 2016, before being eliminated by Stan Wawrinka at the time.
