Carlos Alcaraz challenges the ATP on the schedule: "They must do something"
Before his debut in Paris, the world No. 1 sounded the alarm about the overloaded schedule. "We don't have time to breathe or to train," regrets Alcaraz, calling for a real change in modern tennis.
Carlos Alcaraz, the men's world No. 1, is one of the players who speaks out most regularly about the density of the ATP calendar. Before making his debut at the Rolex Paris Masters, the Spaniard appeared before the media.
He once again mentioned what makes managing the schedule difficult for players:
"I don't know what the ideal number of matches we should play (each season) would be. I'm not in a position to give you an exact number. But they must do something about the schedule.
The number of tournaments we have to play is too high. We don't really have moments where we can take time to train or rest.
During the season, it's week after week. We aren't lucky enough to have a week to ideally prepare for tournaments or what lies ahead.
I will think about the number of matches we should play and I'll let you know later (smile)."
