Injured in the back, Ugo Humbert uncertain for Paris: "We will do everything so he can play"
Just as he was returning to form, Ugo Humbert got injured in Basel and could withdraw from the Paris tournament. Jérémy Chardy, his coach, confirmed the seriousness of the situation, casting doubt on the end of his player's season.
Will Ugo Humbert be able to compete for his chances at the Rolex Paris Masters next week? Nothing is less certain for the current French No. 1, who injured his lower back during his semi-final against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in Basel.
Forced to retire midway through the second set, the Metz native is questioning his participation in the Paris Masters 1000, as his coach Jérémy Chardy indicated to L'Équipe:
"Ugo hurt his back in the same place as this summer. I'm not sure he will be able to play next week. We will do everything so he can, but tonight it seems complicated."
With a finalist status and 650 points to defend at the Paris La Défense Arena, Humbert could lose a lot in case of a withdrawal. A real blow for the 27-year-old player who had been regaining his superb form in recent days.
