"Carlos is the best-equipped person to face Jannik," Roddick previews the Rome final
The two leaders of the new generation, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, will meet in the final of the Rome Masters 1000.
They had not faced each other since the Beijing final in October 2024, partly due to the Italian's suspension, which he ended upon his return at this Rome tournament.
According to Andy Roddick, fans should expect a closely contested match, though he believes Alcaraz is the superior clay-court player: "He has proven over the last two years that he is the best clay-court player in the world; it’s just a matter of fitness.
Alcaraz can do everything. He can create high balls like Casper Ruud, he can hit that cross-court backhand, he can drive it down the line.
It won’t be so easy for Sinner to engage in the kind of exchanges where he’s the best in the world. Carlos won’t let Jannik hit multiple shots from the same position.
That’s when you can dictate play, when you can unleash your power. Carlos is probably the best-equipped player on the planet to face Jannik Sinner."
The two champions will clash this Sunday at 5 PM local time.
