Cerundolo honest about Sinner's level: "You feel like you're playing well but you only win one game in the set"
World number 21, Francisco Cerundolo reached the semi-finals of the Madrid Masters 1000 this year, as well as the quarter-finals at Indian Wells and Miami. Consistent at the start of the year, he had a bit more difficulty in the second part of the season, but remains one of the reliable players on the tour.
The Argentine played two matches against Jannik Sinner this year, and lost each time under completely different conditions. The 27-year-old player reflected on his experiences against the Italian.
"He has no weaknesses"
"In 2023, he was ranked 5th or 6th in the world, and today, he is obviously in the top two, so it's very different. He has no weaknesses, no weak points. I faced him in Rome this year and the match was tight.
It was his first tournament back after his suspension. I had a bit more time to think on the court and try to create something. Then I faced him in Paris, indoors, on a hard court, and he was unbeatable.
"I didn't know what to do in Paris"
I was playing well, but I lost the first set 7-5, then 6-1. Honestly, you feel like you're playing well but you only win one game in the set. He's always there. His serve is incredible, and his return too. On baseline points, he hits the ball very hard and you don't have time to do anything.
I didn't know what to do in Paris. He has improved a lot. Two years ago, he might not have been at his best physically and if there were long matches and long points, he would miss some balls. Now, he doesn't miss anything anymore," Cerundolo assured for Tennis365.
