Coco Gauff Reacts After Opening Loss at WTA Finals: A Special Session With Her Biomechanics Coach
The world No. 3 wasted no time. After her loss to Pegula yesterday, Coco Gauff resumed training under the supervision of Gavin McMillan to fix a serve that was in serious difficulty.
Coco Gauff had a poor start at the WTA Finals, losing in three sets to her compatriot Jessica Pegula (6-3, 6-7, 6-2).
Beyond the result, the world No. 3 and defending champion in Riyad, endured a nightmarish evening on serve: 17 double faults, 18 break points conceded, and nine service games lost.
Questioned by Arab News after the match about her serving difficulties, Coco Gauff gave a rather measured response:
"I served a bit better in the second set, with more aces. I don't know the exact statistics, but I felt I was more accurate."
This Monday, the American was seen training with Gavin McMillan, a biomechanics expert who has been working with her since the US Open. The 21-year-old player will face Jasmine Paolini tomorrow, a crucial match to stay alive in the Steffi Graf group.
