Collignon wants to play Davis Cup with Goffin: "He is someone I have idolized since I was a little kid"
Belgium had an excellent Davis Cup campaign in 2025. Steve Darcis' team managed to qualify for the semi-finals, achieving two very impressive performances.
The Belgians eliminated Australia in Sydney during the second round of the qualifiers, before emerging victorious from their duel against France in the quarter-finals. It was ultimately Italy who managed to overcome the Belgians. Two players particularly shone in the competition: Zizou Bergs and Raphaël Collignon.
While Belgium hasn't played in the Davis Cup final since 2017, the players are starting to believe that another strong run next year could allow them to lift the title.
If motivation isn't what they lack the most, Collignon, however, hopes to fulfill one of his biggest dreams in the coming months. He thus hopes to share the national team selection with his idol David Goffin, a finalist in the event in 2015 and 2017.
"The national team, for me, is above the rest"
"The national team, for me, is above everything. With the team we have, we are really super close, we are friends and we create extraordinary memories when we are together.
We work all week to try to achieve a goal, which is to win the match. And when we succeed and beat a nation like Australia, those are unforgettable memories.
Tennis is still a very solitary sport, and when we get to experience moments like that, it's really a breath of fresh air to try to keep going and relaunch ourselves for the following season.
Guys like Steve (Darcis) and I manage to elevate ourselves in the Davis Cup because we are pushed by a collective. It would be a dream to play with David (Goffin) on the national team.
"It would be incredible to be able to share the national team with him"
Honestly, it would be extraordinary for me. He is someone I have idolized since I was a little kid, who made me believe in my dreams, along with Steve too, since he is someone who came through the same structure as me.
It made me realize that I was also capable of making it, since they made it. Now, we play the same tournaments so we get along very, very well. And it would be truly incredible to be able to share the national team with him. Honestly, it's a dream," Collignon assured to RTBF.
