Constant, Sinner master Kotov and reach the last 16 at Roland-Garros
Jannik Sinner wasn't exactly shaking in his boots on Friday. His hip is still bothering him. Yet, once again, he controlled his opponent, winning in just over 2 hours (6-4, 6-4, 6-4). Without offering the public his very best tennis (36 winners, 21 unforced errors), the world number 2 remained solid on his serve (0 break points conceded), contenting himself with breaking once per set. On the other side of the net, Kotov, ranked 56th in the world, had nothing to be ashamed of. Solid behind the line (30 winners, 26 unforced errors, 9 break points saved), he managed to annoy Sinner, but not enough to win.
Taking advantage of an affordable draw, the Italian will face a player still very much within his reach in the last 16, as he will face the winner of the duel between Moutet and Ofner.
