Davidovich Fokina: "I Know I Haven’t Shown the Full Extent of My Potential Yet"

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina enters the fray this Saturday at the Rome Masters 1000. The Spaniard, ranked 26th in the world, has had a high-quality start to the season on the ATP Tour. A double finalist in Delray Beach and Acapulco, Davidovich Fokina currently sits 13th in the Race, thanks in part to a semifinal run at the Monte-Carlo Masters 1000.
Before facing Dutch lucky loser Jesper De Jong in the second round in the Italian capital, Davidovich Fokina shared his goals with the ATP website.
"The last six months haven’t been easy, but they’ve given me a lot of energy and a different perspective on things off the court. I know I haven’t shown the full extent of my potential yet, and this season, I’m doing well.
But the season is still very long, and there are plenty of points to be won before the end of the year. For now, I’m focusing on each tournament I play. My goal is to stay in the top 20 of the Race consistently, to be close to that ranking.
Of course, if I can aim even higher, that’s even better, but I’m not thinking about the end of the season. I believe I’m someone who can adapt to any surface.
I still need a day or two to adjust, but in the end, I play well on all surfaces. I’m grateful to see my game adapt so quickly," explained Davidovich Fokina.
