Davidovich Fokina on Electronic Officiating: "There Are Very Big Mistakes"
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina lost to Alexander Zverev this Sunday. He witnessed a play where the German was on the receiving end of a questionable call.
A ball was called in by the electronic officiating system, while Zverev was convinced it was out. He quickly took a photo of the ball mark on the Madrid clay.
When asked about it in the post-match press conference, Davidovich Fokina stated: "There are very big mistakes. I saw the mark when I went to that side, and it was a huge error.
The system needs to change something because this isn’t normal. I’m with Zverev. It was wide, and it wasn’t even a fast ball, since it was a backhand volley.
It makes no sense that they called that ball in. One of his other balls was also clearly out, and they called it in.
Those were two very clear mistakes. We were both surprised."
