Argentina found its hero of the day: Tomas Etcheverry. By taming Struff in a match without a single break, he gave his country a precious advantage and a breath of hope ahead of the Cerúndolo–Zverev clash.

Argentina struck first in the second quarter-final of the day in the Davis Cup.

Facing Germany, the Argentines secured the first point thanks to Tomas Etcheverry, who defeated Jan-Lennard Struff after a tight duel (7-6, 7-6).

The world number 60 won after two controlled tie-breaks, 7-3 then 9-7.

Francisco Cerúndolo will now have the opportunity to secure a semi-final spot for Argentina. The Argentine number 1 leads 3 wins to 1 in his head-to-head matches with Alexander Zverev.
