Davydenko on gender equality in tennis: "It's unfair to pay them the same".
Nikolay Davydenko's comments are unlikely to go unnoticed. In comments relayed by our Russian colleagues at Match TV, the former Russian tennis star explained why, in his opinion, women should not be paid as much as men.
Davydenko said: "In tournaments in the 250, 500 and 1000 categories, it's possible. But when it comes to Grand Slam tournaments... We don't play five-set matches. Serena Williams has won Grand Slam tournaments by losing just 10 games in the tournament. She won 6-0, 6-1 or 6-2 without even breaking a sweat or feeling stressed.
Male tennis players work three times harder than female players, especially in Grand Slam tournaments. So it's unfair to pay them the same."
