Marin Cilic spoke to the Spanish media outlet Punto de Break about today's tennis and compared it to the players from the previous generation, whom he knew well.

He stated: "Today's players are different, both mentally and in terms of their tennis. They have a more similar style.

Perhaps you found more variety among the tennis players from 15 years ago.

Gasquet, Monfils, Tsonga, Roddick, Roger, Rafa, Andy, Novak, Del Potro, Nalbandian, Berdych, Ferrer… that list alone represents a very diverse mix, as well as a group of players who reached an incredible level of consistency.

Having Roger, Rafa, Novak, Andy, Stan, Del Potro… all at the same time was something unique.

Among them all, plus all the others I mentioned earlier, they managed to achieve an unreal level of consistency.

It was practically impossible for players of Davydenko’s, Berdych’s, or Ferrer’s caliber—impressive athletes who would have won plenty of tournaments in this category—to claim a Masters 1000 title.

Now we have Alcaraz and Sinner, who are still very young but progressing well.

They are the ones leading the way; it’s a new generation, so we’ll see. The future will tell if they turn out to be a better generation or not.

I agree that it’s less tough to break into the Top 10 today. Right now, we don’t see much consistency among the top players.

They win and lose almost at the same rate, though it’s also true that most of them are still very young and looking to develop their game at the highest level.

But I still think winning a Grand Slam is incredibly difficult."

"Today's players ... have a more similar style. Seems logical. They all came of age when racket and string technology made it possible for any reasonably good player to try and rip the cover off the ball on every shot. The game is almost entirely about power now, whereas some of the previous players mentioned grew up in the day and age of tennis requiring a lot more finesse and touch.
"Right now, we don’t see much consistency among the top players."
Not fair ... the days of years before grew up with some "device" in their face twenty four seven. There was no reading some comment or post or watching endless video shorts and swiping to the next one every 15 or 30 seconds. So the older players were better at concentrating.

From the Williams sisters to Alizé Cornet, from sponsors to the ATP and WTA tours, the debate over pay equality in tennis has never been more intense. Between undeniable progress and persistent inequalities, the king of racket sports finds itself facing its own contradictions.

As we move to the end of this month and also closing out the year I am wishing all of those following me a Merry Christmas and a Happy/Healthy New Year.

Let's make that wish for all 2000 plus players hoping for 5 wins each day. Hoping ŵhen we open the results page to see all green, and no red. And especially NO CANCELED matches.

From me and my rotti JAZ, I bid you all good night, and see you in...

why did tennis tonic void predictions on the match between Chwalinska and Huergo at the Quito tournament? The match was played to completion and on time. If TT feels the match is one sided, and of course it was, then don't put it up for prediction. This is getting irritating.

The finals are here, and we scramble for the best finish. I've been chasing "King" all year and I was able to shrink the spread a little. Skelp is also closing the gap.

Seasons best to all the regulars in our league.

Will you all be back in the new year.?

Steffi Graf completed a Golden Slam (not just a career Grand Slam) when she was 19. She is the only person to accomplish that, winning the four majors plus Olympic gold the same calendar year.
