By defeating Kamil Majchrzak in Shanghai, Alex de Minaur has qualified for the round of 16 of a Masters 1000 for the 24th time in his career.
He becomes the second Australian since the introduction of the Masters 1000 format to record this many qualifications at this stage of the competition, behind Lleyton Hewitt who has 29.
De Minaur has just surpassed Pat Rafter who had 23. The 4th and 5th are Mark Philippoussis and Nick Kyrgios, with a total of 19 and 16 Masters 1000 round of 16 appearances.
At 26 years old, there is no doubt that Hewitt's record could fall in the coming months or years.
