De Minaur goes from strength to strength and reaches the third round!
Alex De Minaur is a sure thing on the ATP circuit. Eighth finalist in Melbourne and quarter-finalist at Roland Garros, he arrives in London with serious ambitions.
Having already won his first title at Bois-le-Duc, the world number 9 is hoping to do even better on a surface where he feels more at ease.
So, after a first-round win without really convincing (7-6, 7-6, 7-6 over Duckworth), content to accelerate at the end of each set, the Australian stepped up a gear on Thursday (6-2, 6-2, 7-5 in 2h02).
Against Jaume Munar, De Minaur offered a much more interesting level of play. Very solid on his return of serve (8 successful breaks), the 25-year-old smothered his opponent, who barely existed.
Despite a scare in the third set, he made it through to the third round, where he will meet the winner of the duel between Kokkinakis and Pouille.
