De Minaur, Seeking First Masters 1000: "I Feel Fresh Physically and Mentally"
Alex De Minaur, who has never won a Masters 1000 in his career, hopes to be a true outsider in this final stage of the Shanghai tournament.
De Minaur, world number 7, is on a mission in China. The Australian, who defeated Camilo Ugo Carabelli (6-4, 6-2), Kamil Majchrzak (6-1, 7-5) and Nuno Borges (7-5, 6-2), will face Daniil Medvedev for a place in the semifinals of the Shanghai Masters 1000.
The 26-year-old player has never won any title in this tournament category, despite a final played in Toronto two years ago against Jannik Sinner. A semifinalist in Monte-Carlo this season, he could be one of the contenders for the title this year in Shanghai. That is his goal, in any case.
"I need to keep improving my game if I want to do something big here. Even though the players still in contention are not the ones who dominated the season, I know I will have tough matches to reach the end.
The best news for me is that I feel fresh physically and mentally, which is fundamental in a tournament like this, where the playing conditions are not optimal. I have to play each match without thinking about anything else.
My progress on serve has been fundamental for the evolution of my tennis in recent weeks. I made a small technical adjustment, and now I feel I can get a high percentage of first serves and have a good rhythm.
The thing I'm most proud of is my consistency, as shown by the fact that I've already accumulated 50 wins this year, but I hope to win even more matches," De Minaur told Tennis World Italia.
