"I wasn't even sure I'd play the qualifiers," Vacherot discusses his Shanghai dream
Valentin Vacherot qualified for the Shanghai Masters 1000 semifinals by defeating Holger Rune on Thursday. Interviewed on court after his victory, the Monegasque declared himself happy and stated he's living a dream.
"I didn't even come as a qualifier participant, I was an alternate. I wasn't even sure I'd play the qualifiers. I don't know what to say, it's just incredible.
The last victory already meant so much to me and this one even more. It was hard not to think about it during match point, I'm entering the Top 100, I know it's just one step.
I tried not to look at the rankings during the tournament but, unfortunately, on this one, I saw in some media that if I won I would enter the Top 100.
It's incredible and I'm looking forward to... is it Thursday? I don't even know what day it is, or when the semifinal is. I'm just very happy and I'm living a dream."
Vacherot will face Novak Djokovic or Zizou Bergs in the next round.
