Vacherot achieves another feat by defeating Rune and advances to the Shanghai semifinals
Valentin Vacherot stepped onto the Shanghai court with the intention of continuing his great adventure in China. Facing Holger Rune in the quarterfinals, the match started in favor of the Dane, thanks to a break obtained as early as the third game.
After securing a double break, Rune won the first set 6-2. A tug-of-war began between the two players during the second set, after the Monegasque player got a break but lost it immediately.
The second set was ultimately decided in a tie-break, won by Vacherot 7-4.
The decisive set was also a physical battle between the two players, where Rune gave in first, suffering from cramps. He was broken in the 7th game and, despite having two break-back points when the Monegasque player was serving for the match, lost 2-6, 7-6, 6-4.
Thanks to this victory, Vacherot will enter the Top 100 in the next ATP rankings. He will face Novak Djokovic or Zizou Bergs in the next round.
