Defending Champion Zheng Withdraws from WTA 500 Tokyo

Zheng Qinwen's recurring physical issues are significantly impacting the conclusion of her season.
Zheng Qinwen has opted to end her season. The World No. 11, who underwent elbow surgery following her first-round loss at Wimbledon, subsequently returned for the Asian tour at the WTA 1000 Beijing.
However, things did not go as planned for the 23-year-old player, as she was forced to retire during the third set of her third-round match against Linda Noskova. Compelled to withdraw from the WTA 1000 Wuhan and the WTA 500 Ningbo, Zheng will not play again this season.
Indeed, still in recovery, last year's Paris Olympic gold medalist has withdrawn from the WTA 500 Tokyo, the tournament where she played the first final of her career in 2022 against Liudmila Samsonova. She managed to win the title last year at the expense of Sofia Kenin (7-6, 6-3) but will therefore be unable to defend her title this year.
