Djokovic defeats 19-year-old Mensik: "This kind of match motivates me".
Novak Djokovic didn't miss a beat on Friday.
Faced with rising star Jakub Mensik, who has already beaten Rublev and Dimitrov, he was pushed around, but eventually came out on top (6-7, 6-1, 6-4).
Questioned in the press conference, he explained how much this type of match against this type of player meant to him.
He explained: "It means more than that, because I don't get many opportunities.
I have a selective schedule, so I haven't played at my best this year, except for maybe a few occasions, at Wimbledon and the Olympics.
But China has always been a happy place, a place where I've really played my best tennis throughout my career.
This kind of match against teenagers (laughs) motivates me, pushes me to dig deep inside myself, and show the world that I've still got it in me, that I can still go the distance with these young guys.
So I'm very happy to have managed to win this very difficult match."
