Kyrgios on Djokovic: "We promised to play together at least once".
On Monday, Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios made a successful start to the men's doubles tournament in Brisbane.
The two men faced the Alexander Erler/Andreas Mies pair and had the last word after a super tie-break (6-4, 6-7, 10-8).
After the match, Kyrgios was interviewed on court and confided that he wanted to share the same court as Djokovic at least once.
"I was surprised that Novak doubted himself at times. I used to say to him 'You're the greatest player of all time, do what you want'.
I looked at the fans around me ... This injury was brutal for me, so I don't take anything for granted.
I don't know how many Australian tours I have left as a player.
We had promised to play doubles together at least once before he retired or before I decided to stop.
I'm delighted that we're still in the running," explained Kyrgios.
The next round will see the pair Nikola Mektic/Michael Venus, seeded number 1 in the draw, battle it out for a place in the quarter-finals.
