Djokovic Defies Time: "He Will Play in 2026 and 2027"
38 years old, 100 titles, and still that undiminished hunger: Novak Djokovic refuses to let go. In a podcast, Mark Knowles reveals the behind-the-scenes of his decision: to continue defying time… and his rivals, until 2027.
Novak Djokovic’s 2025 season, at 38 years old, is admirable with four Grand Slam semifinals as well as a title in Geneva, the 100th of his career. Although he is currently overshadowed by Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, the Serbian remains the third-best player on the tour in major events.
These performances seem to have convinced him to continue his career, as revealed by Jessica Pegula’s coach, Mark Knowles, on the Inside-In Tennis podcast:
“It’s difficult to speculate about Djokovic. I don’t think an ordinary person could find the motivation to keep playing, but he manages to do it. Fortunately for us, we are lucky enough to watch him play. We want to see the greatest players of all time play forever.
He defies the passage of time, and that’s something we love. No one has ever managed it, but he is close. He is fighting against time. From what I’ve heard, Novak will play in 2026 and 2027. He has no plans to stop. It’s clear that he loves challenges and still believes in himself.”
