Djokovic Delights in Athens: The Serb Claims a 101st Title and Denies Musetti a Masters Qualification
Novak Djokovic continues to push the limits of age. The third force on the men's tour during this 2025 season, the Serbian veteran secured his second title of the season, and his 101st career title, in Athens.
He did so by defeating Lorenzo Musetti in a final of rare intensity. In the first set, Musetti got off to a flying start, unleashing some unstoppable backhands and surprising his opponent tactically.
More dangerous than anyone when his back is against the wall, Djokovic mounted a comeback in the second set with some magnificent points (a split-drop volley, a winning dive to break at 4-3...).
The third set provided a real thriller for the Athens crowd: Djokovic broke twice (1-1 then 3-3), but gave up his advantage each time.
Musetti fought tooth and nail to stay alive in the match, but he cracked once again in the money-time, losing 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 after 2 hours and 59 minutes of play.
At 38 years old, Djokovic triumphs for the second time this year after Geneva, and in doing so, denies Musetti a first-time qualification for the ATP Finals.
However, a withdrawal from the Serb, who is still uncertain for Turin, could allow him to take part in the Masters.
