Djokovic, Musetti, Wawrinka… The Athens Draw Unveiled!
The first ATP tournament in Athens begins in a special atmosphere: led by Djordje Djokovic, it will bring together his brother Novak, Musetti, Wawrinka, and a double Grand Slam winner in the juniors.
The draw for the ATP 250 in Athens, moved from Belgrade to Greece under the impetus of the Djokovic family – with Djordje, Novak's brother, as tournament director – took place this Friday.
Novak Djokovic, now a resident of Greece, will be the main attraction of this final week of competition for most players. The world No. 1 will start his tournament on Tuesday against Alejandro Tabilo or Adam Walton, with the prospect of a potential quarter-final against Nuno Borges.
Lorenzo Musetti, the No. 2 seed and a last-minute invitee trying to secure his qualification for the Masters, will face Stan Wawrinka or Botic van de Zandschulp.
The Italian is in the same quarter of the draw as Alexandre Müller, the only French player entered in Greece, who will start against a qualifier.
Furthermore, a wild card has been awarded to the young Bulgarian Ivan Ivanov, 17, this year's winner of the junior Wimbledon and the junior US Open. He will face a player from the qualifying rounds in his opening match.
