Djokovic sensational to clinch the 100th title of his career in Geneva!
On the eve of the start of the French Open, Novak Djokovic won the Geneva tournament against Hubert Hurkacz (5-7, 7-6, 7-6).
One question was on everyone's lips in Geneva this Saturday: Would Djokovic manage to secure the 100th title of his career, thus becoming the third player in history to achieve this feat after Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer?
Facing an opponent he had always defeated in seven previous matches, the former world No. 1 nearly got trapped. Hurkacz, who delivered 52 winners and 19 aces, gave Djokovic a tough challenge, as both men battled on the center court for 3 hours and 5 minutes.
Despite losing the first set and performing slightly below his previous standards, the Serbian player bounced back, and after two flawlessly executed tie-breaks (both won 7-2), he added his name to another page of tennis history with this 100th career title.
Two days after celebrating his 38th birthday, Djokovic thus claimed his first title since the Paris Olympics. He will arrive in the French capital with a nice boost of confidence.
