Eliminated on Sunday in the final round of qualifying by his compatriot Corentin Denolly, Adrian Mannarino benefited from Nicolas Moreno de Alboran's withdrawal (injury) to enter the main draw in Houston.

He then defeated Yannick Hanfmann 7-6, 6-3, marking his first main draw victory in an ATP tournament since the Paris-Bercy event last November (win over Zizou Bergs, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4).

Ranked 144th in the world, Mannarino will face Alex Michelsen in the second round.

I propose the following changes to the rules:

1...a walķover will not be a loss. We have no control of player's health. If he or she is entered in a contest we expect them to play.

2...an incomplete match is not a loss. If a player forfeits we pick another match if there are more to choose.

3...this also applies if TT cancels a match. TT will not take hours to decide an outcome.
