Edmund, Former Grand Slam Semi-Finalist, Announces Retirement at 30

Former British No. 1 Kyle Edmund announced his retirement from professional tennis this Monday.

The Johannesburg, South Africa native reached a career-high ranking of No. 14 in 2018, capping off a year that saw him compete in his first Grand Slam semi-final at the Australian Open (losing to Marin Cilic).

That same season, Edmund claimed the Antwerp tournament title before securing a second career trophy in 2020 at the ATP 250 event in New York. He was also part of the victorious Great Britain Davis Cup team in 2015.

In recent seasons, the Brit had been hampered by injuries and was unable to make his way back into the top 100.

In a video released by the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association), he explained his decision to retire:

"The last five years have been tough, with three surgeries and other injuries to my wrist, abs, hip, and foot. My body is telling me it's time to stop. Looking back, I can say I gave my all during my career and did everything I could to return to where I was. There are no regrets."
