Federer on Del Potro: "You were an important player for the tennis world".
In an exhibition match that marked his last moments on a tennis court, Juan Martin Del Potro put on a great show against Novak Djokovic.
The Argentine got the better of his friend and former rival (6-4, 7-5) before being honored on court.
After Novak Djokovic's speech, Roger Federer's message to the 2009 US Open winner was displayed on the stadium's giant screen.
"I know that this is and will remain a special moment for you. You have been an important person and player for the tennis world.
I hope it will be a wonderful moment, at an event where you will be celebrated.
We all need to get to that next stage in life, and I believe the best is yet to come for you, Juan Martin," begins the Swiss.
"I hope that people in Argentina will celebrate this moment with you and that you will experience a special moment with Novak.
I wish I could have been there, but I want you to know that I'm thinking of you right now, and I wish you all the best.
It's been an honor and a pleasure to play against you and to spend some quality time with you off the court. I'm sure we'll be seeing you very soon", he concluded.
