Federer on his lost US Open final against del Potro in 2009: "I should have won"

Defeated by Juan Martin del Potro in the 2009 US Open final, Roger Federer looked back on this match, which he believes he should not have lost.

Juan Martin del Potro won his only Grand Slam tournament at the US Open in 2009. In the final, he defeated Roger Federer with a score of 3-6, 7-6, 4-6, 7-6, 6-2. In remarks quoted by Tages Anzeiger, the Swiss player looked back on this match.

He stated: "I should have won. At that time, I had back pain during the warm-up, then I wasted many opportunities. It was one of the matches I should not have lost."
