Federer: "The transition from juniors to pro was difficult for me"
In remarks quoted by Tages Anzeiger, Roger Federer discussed the transition he experienced between the juniors and the professional world. He admitted that this period was complicated for him.
He states: "The most difficult transition for me was the move from juniors to the pros. At first, everything was fine. Suddenly, I found myself in a locker room with Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, Tim Henman, Yevgeny Kafelnikov, Carlos Moya, and others, and I thought it was great.
But then, things became very serious. This period was difficult for me, when you travel a lot, you lose often, and you go through emotional upheavals like the ones I experienced.
It's not always a party. This seriousness weighed on me. The period between my 18th and 20th or 21st years was trying."
