"For me, it's just a bonus," Bencic expresses her joy after qualifying for the Wimbledon semifinals
After winning a hard-fought quarterfinal match against Andreeva at Wimbledon, Bencic secured her second career Grand Slam semifinal. Having become a mother just 15 months ago, the Swiss player shared her emotions on the court after the match:
"I have a lot of respect for her. At just 18 years old, she’s already playing on the biggest courts in the world. She has a very strong game with a lot of variety. It took me some time to figure out how I needed to play.
As for the tie-breaks, it’s always a close battle. You know, when it’s really tight, you stop thinking—it’s more about instinct. I didn’t want to think about qualifying when I was ahead because I’ve had issues with match points before (laughs).
This is only my third time on Centre Court, and it’s still just as magical. I’m speechless. I’m really proud of my family. We’ve worked so hard for my comeback. For me, this is just a bonus now."
She will face former world No. 1 Swiatek for a spot in the final.
