For Sakkari, Wimbledon will be wide open this year: "I think there are a total of 20 or 25 players capable of winning".
Maria Sakkari was reassured by her first-round match at Wimbledon. After 4 consecutive defeats, she perfectly mastered her opponent, American qualifier McCartney Kessler (6-3, 6-1 in 1h11).
Satisfied with her tennis, she was asked to comment on the favourites for this year's title. Predicting a tournament more open than ever, the Greek explained that many surprises could be expected, including from her:
"I see a very open edition, there's a very good overall level and in every match you can have a surprise. I think there are a total of 20 or 25 players capable of winning this tournament, myself included."
