For us doubles players, it's a real shame," says Julian Cash, Wimbledon champion, on the US Open mixed doubles event

On August 19 and 20, the US Open will take center stage in the media with the first edition of its new mixed doubles competition.
The draw, condensed into two days and featuring shortened match formats, will bring together numerous stars from the men's and women's tours, including Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Iga Świątek, and Aryna Sabalenka. This complete overhaul of the mixed doubles tournament automatically sidelines specialists in the discipline.
Julian Cash, who won Wimbledon last week alongside Lloyd Glasspool, shared his thoughts on the matter:
"I’m a bit torn—I’m trying to see both sides. For us as doubles players, it’s a real shame. I have no doubt about that. I completely understand why they did it. When you see the names in the draw, it’s going to be an incredible event, and it will live up to expectations.
From what I’ve heard, they’ve pooled all the prize money from women’s and men’s doubles, so financially, it’s a nice boost for the year. The sport has to keep evolving. We’ll see if this is the right decision or not. I wish them the best.
