The final match of the day on the Center Court of the Shanghai Masters 1000 pitted Taylor Fritz against Fabian Marozsan in the second round. The American, seeded number 5, faced Fabian Marozsan, who had defeated Stan Wawrinka in the first round (6-1, 4-6, 6-4).
This was the second encounter between the two players after their meeting in the third round of the 2024 Australian Open, which Fritz won in four sets. Having recently been a finalist at the ATP 500 tournament in Tokyo against Carlos Alcaraz, the world number 4 hoped to continue his momentum at this Masters 1000, where he had reached the semifinals last year.
