Fritz overcomes Ruud to reach the quarters
Taylor Fritz continues to impress in New York. After winning his first three matches with great authority, the American No.1 passed the Casper Ruud test with flying colors on Sunday.
Facing the former finalist, the 26-year-old managed the match very well, winning for the first time in his career against Ruud (3-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 in 2h44).
Initially dominating play in the first set, Fritz then took full control of the match, serving very well (23 aces, 86% of points won on first serve) and hurting from the baseline (56 winners, 35 unforced errors).
Qualified for the quarter-finals, he will meet the winner of the match between De Minaur and Thompson. A great opportunity for him!
